2014 WW Sketchcrawl 43

OK...still haven't updated my blog.  I've been busy in the studio painting.  But today was the first 2014 WW Sketchcrawl 43 and it's the first time I've ever been part of it.  It was cloudy and cold here in New Mexico, so I stayed in with a warm cup of tea & sketched that!  I used pen and watercolor.  Here's the sketch:

I "pushed" the colors to try out some new ideas.  Hopefully soon I can post some of the sketches and paintings I've been working on!  Until then, wishing you all a Happy Easter, Happy Passover & Blessed Ostara!

Beaded Face Swap

Boy, I've wanted to be in Sassy Art Goddess's Beaded Face Swap for a couple years now & finally figured out how to do it this year. I know. I'm slow! :) Anyway, she finally listed this years pieces here so you can check out mine & everyone else's. There's some great pieces. (Timaree! You're right next to me!)
Since it was around Halloween time that this happens, I decided to use a glow in the dark face that I molded. Here's a close-up of the beaded piece.

Here I tried to get a pic of it glowing in the dark! :( NOT a great pic, but in person it's more fun!

And here's the final piece...as you can tell, I hope, the face is 'sposed to look like a moon with a bat shape behind it! :) I added a backing and sent it on. Now I just get to wait for my swap pin to arrive!! I wonder which it will be!

Aloha Doll for the Comfort Doll Project

During my time with my pal, I was able to finish another one of my Aloha dolls for the Comfort Doll Project. I'm hoping to get her done & put her in the mail this next week. Here she is:

I hope someone really loves her...she's filled with lots of love in each stitch!

Bead It Forward

I'm not sure if you noticed over on the left of my blog that I'm supporting the Bead it Forward project.
Each of us make a 1.5 X 1.5 " piece of beadwork that will be added to a beaded quilt. (Some of us have more time & can make more pieces.) The quilt is put together & auctioned off to help support breast cancer awareness. Here is my piece I'll be sending up to Alaska:

Remember September

So it was September again. This year I read about the Remember September mail art project & at the last minute decided to send one in. I sketched the NY skyline on red mulberry paper & tore out the outline of the Twin Towers. I remember being there years ago. I added some words to the families & friends who lost someone, and here it is ready to be mailed on 9/11.

First Aloha Doll done

OK...the first Aloha Doll is done & ready to be mailed to the Comfort Doll project. Here she is:

I hope whoever gets her knows every stitch sewn, & every bead added, was made with lots of love! And with belief for a peaceful, beautiful future!

Working on Aloha Dolls

Worked some on my Aloha Dolls for the Comfort Doll project. The problem I had was designing a doll that had to be only 6". But I did it...makes for tiny stitches & tough turning, but she's getting there....at least the first one is! :) Now I'm putting a picot edge on her. Think I'll leave her simple like that & just add a tag. Hope someone loves her. I really try to work on her when I feel peaceful & fill her with that same energy.

Comfort Dolls with Aloha

So, I designed an Aloha doll for the Comfort Doll project. She's really simple. I'm using aloha fabric & beading a heart on her. Once she's sewn & stuffed, I'll decide if I want to add any other embellishments. Here's the beginning of 2 of them:

Comfort Dolls & Bead it Forward

Hi all!
To the left I've added an element called Projects I'm Involved With. There you will find a project called Comfort Dolls. I have a personal interest in wanting to help this cause. It's just getting started, but there is no timeline. The link on the left tells about the project, but you can get to the updated info here. There's not alot of ways that I can give, but this is one way. Join in if you can.
